Ex-convict Saichi Sugimoto arrives in Sapporo as the hunt for a fortune in Ainu gold, encoded in tattoos scattered across escaped prisoners' skin, reaches its final stretch. A copycat killer modeling murders on Jack the Ripper stalks the city as Sugimoto, the Ainu girl Asirpa, and escape artist Yoshitake Shiraishi form uneasy alliances with rival factions racing for the same prize. Military officer Tokushirou Tsurumi keeps maneuvering to seize Asirpa for his own plans, pulling the group deeper into Sapporo's underworld.
