Akari Amano goes into the woods near her home chasing a rumor about a doll-like girl said to live there, gets lost, and is rescued by the girl herself: Sophie Twilight, a vampire of some three and a half centuries living alone among the trees. Akari, who collects dolls, falls for her on the spot. Undeterred by Sophie's preference for solitude, she all but moves in, and the two settle into an odd-couple routine as Akari chases every excuse to spend more time with a vampire who would rather be left alone.
