Half-Japanese, half-American pilot Yuuya Bridges arrives at the UN's Yukon Base in Alaska as test pilot of the XFJ Project, one strand of a Prominence Project that pits elite Tactical Surface Fighter units against each other to field-test experimental war machines. Decades into a war humanity is losing to the alien BETA, who overran the Eurasian continent long ago, Yuuya flies with a multinational test flight alongside Nepalese pilot Tarisa Manandal and keeps running up against the Soviet Scarlet Twins, the esper pilots Cryska Barchenowa and Inia Sestina. This manga adapts the story's opening chapters.
