Synopsis
Masanosuke Akitsu is a timid ronin, repeatedly let go from jobs for his nervous manner, who has just arrived in Edo when a man of easy charm named Yaichi offers him work as a bodyguard. Masa takes the job without asking questions, only to learn that Yaichi leads the Five Leaves, a small gang that kidnaps wealthy merchants' heirs for ransom. Uneasy about the crime but drawn to Yaichi and the gang's other members, tavern owner Umezou among them, Masa keeps returning.
