Guts, a lone mercenary with nothing to fight for but survival, crosses paths with Griffith, the charismatic leader of the Band of the Falcon, and is defeated in a duel that binds him to the group. As the Falcons wage campaign after campaign for the Kingdom of Midland, Guts rises to commander of the raiders while Griffith's dream of ruling his own kingdom pulls the entire company forward. Casca, the Falcons' fierce second-in-command, distrusts the newcomer even as the three grow inseparable.
