Hibiki works an assembly line turning out war mecha on Taraak, the all-male planet, taking constant ridicule from his coworkers while dreaming of building a machine of his own. Fed up, he sneaks aboard the battleship Ikazuchi to steal one of the Vanguards he helps build, and is still on board when pirates from the women's planet Mejeer attack. The theft that was meant to prove something instead drops Hibiki into the middle of a war between the two worlds. This light novel retells the opening stage of the Vandread story.
