Synopsis
Iku Kasahara enlists in the Kanto Library Defense Force in 2019, inspired years earlier by a soldier who kept a censored book she wanted from being confiscated. Japan's Media Betterment Committee can legally seize any material it judges offensive, and only libraries, protected now by their own armed defense units, may preserve and circulate what the government bans. Training under her demanding superior, Atsushi Doujou, Kasahara begins a career that mixes military drill with running battles over censorship. This is the first novel in the Library War series, the source for the Library Wars manga, anime, and films.
