Kyouhei Kuga fled his hometown and his duties as a seki, someone able to control the ancient living puppets called kakashi through sheer will, to build an ordinary student life in Tokyo. That life ends the night he finds a murder victim in his building's elevator and his younger sister Utao arrives carrying Kukuri, the kakashi he once partnered with, to warn him that his former friend Aki and Aki's own kakashi are responsible. His classmate Hibino Shiba is pulled into the fallout as Kyouhei is forced back into a world he tried to leave behind.
