Eleven-year-old Al Izuruha lives on the neutral space colony Side 6 in the final days of the One Year War, fascinated by a conflict he's only ever watched from a distance. He befriends Bernie Wiseman, a Zeon mobile suit pilot whose unit has slipped into the colony to destroy a Federation Gundam prototype hidden there, without realizing his neighbor Christina MacKenzie is the Gundam's Federation test pilot.
