Synopsis
Ippo Makunouchi, a shy high schooler who spends his free time helping at his mother's fishing boat charter, is rescued from bullies by middleweight boxer Mamoru Takamura. Inspired by Takamura's strength, Ippo joins the Kamogawa Boxing Gym and discovers a natural talent for in-fighting, channeling years of hauling work into devastating punches. His first rival, the counter-specialist Ichiro Miyata, sets the standard Ippo chases as he begins climbing the featherweight ranks.
