At NERV Foundation Academy, Shinji Ikari stumbles onto classmates Rei Ayanami and Kaworu Nagisa fighting a winged intruder and, in the panic, triggers a strange power of his own. He learns the pair are already secretly battling Angels, beings that take over human bodies, using EVA weapons summoned by willpower alone. Drawn into their fight alongside new transfer student Asuka Langley Souryuu, Shinji has to catch up fast on a war his classmates have been hiding in plain sight.
