Three years after Shinji Ikari stops Third Impact, NERV has been rebuilt under Misato Katsuragi's command in this alternate continuation of Evangelion. Shinji, now seventeen, again leads the EVA team alongside Asuka Langley Soryu, while four copies of Rei Ayanami run a worldwide search-and-destroy program against any Angel that resurfaces. When one of those units goes wrong and sets a course for Tokyo-3, Shinji and Asuka are sent to intercept it, and what they meet is a new kind of enemy: Evangelions that Angels have taken over.
