After her older brother dies, Teru Kurebayashi is left with only a cell phone and a promise: text 'Daisy,' and the mysterious person on the other end will always answer. Daisy becomes the one steady thing in her life, kind, encouraging, never judgmental, even as everything else at school goes sideways. That mostly means clashing constantly with Tasuku Kurosaki, the school's blunt, lazy janitor who works her into odd jobs after she accidentally breaks a school window. Teru can't stand him, but Kurosaki keeps turning up exactly when she needs someone in her corner.
