Bored with her ordinary life, Tokyo high schooler Kiina Sano wakes up alone in a ruined, empty Kyoto with a Queen of Clubs playing card in hand and no memory of how she got there. She soon meets Alice Kojima, another transplanted Tokyo student holding a Queen of Hearts, and the two fall in with ten other strangers who each carry a different card. Guided by cryptic instructions from an unknown figure calling himself the King of Clubs, the group splits between those who chase a way back to Tokyo and those who choose to stay.
