Shinpei Ajiro returns to the island of Hitogashima for the funeral of Ushio Kofune, the childhood friend whose family raised him after his parents died. What the islanders call a drowning, Shinpei suspects was murder — and when he is killed investigating, he wakes up back on the day of his arrival with his memories intact. Trapped in a time loop, Shinpei uncovers a conspiracy tied to the Shadows, entities that copy and replace the island's residents.
