Worick Arcangelo and Nicolas Brown run a two-man odd-job service called the Handymen in Ergastulum, a walled city controlled by four mafia families. They take contracts from both the police and the mob — the jobs no one else will touch. When a police contact hires them to eliminate a gang encroaching on mafia territory, they take in Alex Benedetto, a former prostitute caught in the crossfire. Nicolas is a Twilight, a superhuman descended from wartime drug experiments, marked by a government-issued dogtag ranking his combat ability.
