Twenty years after the gas disaster that emptied Hinamizawa and left the village sealed off, the government finally lifts the quarantine, drawing curious visitors back to its abandoned streets. Among them is Akira Otobe, who falls in with a woman calling herself Mion Sonozaki, a name that should be impossible since Mion died in the disaster two decades earlier. When one of the visitors turns up dead soon after, everyone in the group becomes a suspect. Set as an alternate branch off the main Higurashi story, this manga-only arc reimagines the village's mystery with a new cast of outsiders.
