Synopsis
Maria loses her claim to the Annovazzi duchy the moment her baby brother is born, and with every eligible noble back home already spoken for, she heads to the neighboring kingdom of Rubini to look for a husband, staying with a distant relative named Aida. Then Renato di Rubini, the kingdom's first prince, publicly announces that he is ending his engagement to her. Maria has never been engaged to him: the woman he meant to break things off with was Aida, and the mix-up drops her straight into palace politics.
