Tooru Kokonoe enrolls at Koryo Academy, where every student manifests a soul weapon called a Blaze and must fight a qualification duel on the first day to stay enrolled. While most students awaken bladed weapons, Tooru's Blaze takes the form of a shield, marking him as an Irregular. He is paired with Julie Sigtuna, a quiet silver-haired girl whose twin-sword Blaze complements his defense, and the two train as a Duo while Tooru pursues the one who destroyed everything he cared about.
