Harutora Tsuchimikado belongs to a branch family of onmyoji practitioners but was born without any spiritual power, content to live a normal life in the countryside. When his childhood friend Natsume — heir to the Tsuchimikado main family and rumored reincarnation of the legendary onmyoji Yakou — comes to claim the promise he once made to serve as her shikigami, Harutora enrolls at an onmyoji academy in Tokyo and is drawn into factional conflicts surrounding Yakou's legacy and the Onmyo Agency.
