Tsuneo Suzukawa, a college student in Osaka who dreams of studying marine biology abroad, catches Josee's runaway wheelchair on a steep hill and stumbles into her reclusive world. Josee, paraplegic since childhood, has spent her life indoors with her grandmother Chizu, imagining the ocean through picture books. When Chizu hires Tsuneo as her caretaker, the two begin venturing outside together, trading her illustrated fantasies for the real tide pools and aquariums she has never seen.
