William James Moriarty, adopted son of a British noble family, serves as a private consultant to the common people of late-Victorian London. In secret he operates as the 'Lord of Crime,' and together with his brothers Albert and Louis he engineers the downfall of corrupt aristocrats through calculated crimes designed to expose the rot in Britain's rigid class system. His operations eventually draw the attention of a consulting detective named Sherlock Holmes.
