Sage Nanoha, seventeen, keeps the books for his family's hilltop patisserie, a shop that never puts a single cake in its window, and dreams of making it the best in Japan. His older brother Thyme bakes cakes said to taste like an angel made them, then drives off walk-in customers like a devil. The reason is a secret the brothers share: Thyme is already dead, and the cigarettes his monk friend Yuten makes keep his ghost solid. Youngest brother Parsley talks to animals, and across the street Honoka Shirakawa's wagashi shop is sworn to put the Nanohas out of business.
