Lunia Persephone, the neglected eldest daughter of Count Persephone, is chosen to marry Hades Khronoa, head of a ducal house feared as the Lords of Death. Every Khronoa head is cursed to go mad or die by thirty unless he fathers a child with a bride chosen by God, yet Hades tells Lunia he will never love or touch her. To save him she drugs him, spends one night with him and flees. Seven years later she is secretly raising twin sons, Uranus and Helios, in a neighboring country when Hades finds her.
