Will, the sole living child in a ruined City of the Dead, is raised by three undead guardians: Blood, a skeletal warrior; Mary, a mummified priestess; and Gus, a spectral sorcerer. Each trains him in combat, prayer, and magic, preparing him for a world he has never seen. When the truth behind the city's fall and his guardians' binding contract with a dark god surfaces, Will must choose between staying in the only home he knows and setting out as a paladin of the goddess Gracefeel.
