A boy named Will wakes in a ruined city of the dead, raised by three undead guardians: Blood, a hearty skeleton warrior; Mary, a mummified priestess; and Gus, a cantankerous spectral mage. They pour their knowledge into him, training his body and faith, until Will starts asking why he is here and what these three are protecting. To answer that, he must uncover the secrets of the dead man's land and the pasts the undead carry.
