Rin Tohsaka, heir to one of Fuyuki City's founding mage families, prepares to enter the Fifth Holy Grail War — a secret battle royale among seven mages, each partnered with a summoned Heroic Spirit called a Servant. Using her late father's pendant as a catalyst, she summons Archer, a Servant whose true identity she cannot determine. This extended prologue episode introduces the rules of the Grail War and the mage society behind it through Rin's perspective before the main series begins.
