Ren Amamiya is sent to Tokyo on probation after a bogus assault charge and transfers into Shujin Academy, where the volleyball coach Kamoshida runs the school like a private kingdom. A mysterious phone app drops Ren and the delinquent Ryuji Sakamoto into the Metaverse, a shadow world built from the warped desires of adults, and there Ren awakens a Persona named Arsène. With a talking cat called Morgana, the trio forms the Phantom Thieves of Hearts to break Kamoshida and the corrupt figures who come after him.
