Generations after humanity's slow decline, people live in small villages among the ruins of the old world, while a new dominant species has risen: the fairies, tiny cheerful creatures drawn to sweets whose whims warp reality. An unnamed young woman returns to her hometown as the official Mediator between humans and fairies, charged with smoothing relations between the two. Her quiet assignments keep spiraling into surreal trouble whenever the fairies decide something looks fun.
