Kazuma Hoshino moves from the city to the mountain town of Yamabiko with his younger brother Ayumu, whose poor health prompted the change, with a room waiting for them at the Yorozuyo inn. Chasing a monkey that stole Ayumu's hat, Kazuma slips on a stream crossing and accidentally kisses a local girl, Ui Nakatsugawa; her friend Ibuki Hinata sees it and chases him off. The next day Ui turns out to be in his new class, and Kazuma settles into a country life crowded with the young women of Yamabiko.
