Maomao returns to the inner palace to assist Consort Gyokuyou through her second pregnancy while overseeing literacy education for the palace's women. Season 2 picks up immediately where the first left off, with a fresh chain of court mysteries for Maomao to untangle and her complicated arrangement with the eunuch official Jinshi deepening further. Intrigue reaching in from beyond the capital eventually pulls both of them outside the palace walls.
