This second season returns to high school teacher Nozomu Itoshiki, whose name can be read as "despair" and whose fatalistic outlook derails most lessons. Talked out of suicide in season one by the relentlessly cheerful Kafuka Fuura, he now faces his class of thirty-two eccentric girls. Loosely connected sketches play his bottomless pessimism against Kafuka's warped optimism and the quirks of students like the stalker Matoi and the punctual Chiri.
