Kosuke Ueki, an unflappable junior-high student, is handed the power to turn trash into trees by his homeroom teacher, the celestial candidate Mr. K. The gift drafts him into the Battle of the Supernatural Powers, a tournament of a hundred junior-high fighters whose winning god becomes ruler of the Celestial World. Joined by his sharp-eyed classmate Ai Mori, Ueki fights not for the prize but to keep that power out of selfish hands.
