Mai Tokiha transfers to the elite Fuuka Academy with her younger brother Takumi and learns she carries the HiME mark, one of twelve girls able to summon a Child — a half-spiritual, half-mechanical guardian. Her own Child is the fiery beast Kagutsuchi, which she calls on to fight the monstrous Orphans threatening the school.
