Masaru Kato dies in a subway attack and wakes in a bare room beside a black sphere called Gantz, which forces the dead to hunt monsters across the city. Sent to Osaka with Reika Shimohira's Tokyo team, he meets local fighter Anzu Yamasaki and insists on protecting civilians even when his teammates warn it will get him killed. This feature film is a fully CG retelling of the manga's Osaka arc rather than a continuation of the earlier TV anime.
