Yorito Morimiya is a high schooler obsessed with the sky, papering his ceiling with photos of it and slipping out before dawn to shoot the sunrise. One night he meets Matsuri Shihou, a girl who turns out to be a Yaka — an ageless being who cannot bear sunlight and has never seen a blue sky in daylight. Their meeting draws Yorito into Matsuri's flight from Takeshi Tsujidou, a man hunting her, and into the question of what the daytime sky could mean to someone who can never stand under it.
