Yorito Morimiya is a high schooler obsessed with the sky, papering his ceiling with photos of it and slipping out before dawn to shoot the sunrise. One night he meets Matsuri Shihou, a girl who turns out to be a Yaka, an ageless being who cannot bear sunlight and has never seen a blue sky in daylight. Their meeting draws Yorito into Matsuri's flight from Takeshi Tsujidou, the man hunting her, and into the question of what the daytime sky could mean to someone who can never stand under it.
