Synopsis
Ten-year-old Erin lives in the village of Ake with her mother Soyon, a beast doctor who tends the Touda, dragon-like war-lizards bred for the army of the Grand Duke Taikou. Soyon belongs to the Mist People, an outcast clan, and raises Erin to respect the creatures rather than fear them. When tragedy strikes the herd Soyon cares for, Erin is swept away from the only home she knows and into a wider land of warring provinces, where her curiosity about animals draws her toward the Royal Beasts.
