Punpun Onodera is an ordinary Japanese boy drawn as a simple cartoon bird while everyone around him appears fully human. The story follows him from elementary school onward, beginning with a crush on a new transfer student named Aiko Tanaka and the unstable home he grows up in between a distant mother and an uncle who steps in to raise him. Inio Asano's manga tracks Punpun's quiet inner life across the years as childhood drifts toward a harder adolescence, told in a grounded slice-of-life register set against everyday family strain.
