Thorfinn grows up in a quiet Icelandic village as the son of Thors, a renowned warrior who has forsworn battle. When a mercenary captain named Askeladd kills his father, Thorfinn attaches himself to the same band, serving as one of its fighters only to earn the right to challenge Askeladd to a duel. Among raiding Vikings in the wars of eleventh-century Europe, he lives for the day he can take his revenge.
