Gabimaru is a death-row ninja so detached from life that he cannot even be executed, kept alive by his quiet wish to see his wife again. The executioner Yamada Asaemon Sagiri offers him a pardon if he sails to Shinsenkyo, a mysterious island said to hide an elixir of immortality. Gabimaru is sent there alongside other condemned criminals, each paired with a Yamada Asaemon swordsman as escort and watcher, into a lush island where earlier expeditions vanished without a trace.
