Yotsuba Koiwai is a bright, green-haired five-year-old who moves to a new town with her easygoing adoptive father. Knowing almost nothing about ordinary life, she meets everything with wide-eyed wonder: air conditioners, doorbells, cicadas, a rope swing. The three Ayase sisters next door, especially good-natured Fuka, fold her into the neighborhood as each self-contained chapter follows Yotsuba discovering some small piece of the everyday world for the first time.
