Thirty-year-old bachelor Daikichi Kawachi returns home for his grandfather's funeral and meets Rin, the old man's six-year-old illegitimate daughter, whom the rest of the family treats as an embarrassment to be shuffled aside. On impulse, Daikichi takes Rin in himself, with no experience and no idea how to be a parent. Day by day he works out nursery schedules, sick nights, and his own job around her, and finds an ally in Yukari Nitani, the single mother of a boy Rin befriends at daycare.
