Kii Kogami is coasting through a dull high school routine when a small girl in a frilly dress walks onto campus and beats a teacher to death, then turns on the students and leaves the corpses to rise as shambling zombies. Kogami runs with his quiet childhood friend Tsukune Fukumoto and a handful of survivors as the slaughter spreads from the school into the city and more of these smiling magical girls appear. What looks like a magical-girl story is a horror survival, and Kogami has no powers and nothing but the next exit to aim for.
