In a 2048 Tokyo linked to the rest of the northern hemisphere by the Eurasian Railroad, Origin is an artificial human built by a creator he calls Father. When Father dies, Origin discovers that the eight other androids made alongside him are killing people by night, and he holds instead to Father's last instruction: live properly. Passing as a human named Jin Tanaka, he takes a post in the robotics lab of the AEE conglomerate while his fellow machines hunt him.
