As children in Tokyo, Takaki Tōno and Akari Shinohara are inseparable, until Akari's family moves away and the two can only stay close through letters. Takaki travels across the country to see her once more before his own family relocates even farther, and the distance between them keeps widening with the years. This manga adapts Makoto Shinkai's film, taking its title from the speed at which a cherry blossom petal falls and giving the female leads more room than the original.
