Kamiyama is an outwardly friendly, popular student who hides a cold fascination with murder, and Yoru Morino is a withdrawn classmate who shares it. The two trade books on grim subjects until a string of local killings draws them in: a murderer who severs his victims' left hands and arranges the bodies in public. When Morino finds the killer's notebook, the pair use it to seek out the corpses themselves and work out who he is.
