Hayate Ayasaki has worked since childhood to cover his deadbeat parents, who finally saddle him with a crushing gambling debt and try to sell his organs to the yakuza. Fleeing the collectors, he runs into Nagi Sanzenin, the young sole heir to the immense Sanzenin fortune, and a clumsy attempt to kidnap her for ransom backfires into Nagi hiring him as her butler. Hayate ends up guarding the sheltered, manga-obsessed girl from the schemers circling her family's money — never noticing the crush she's developed on him.
