Eumenes is a sharp, bookish boy in the Greek city-state of Cardia, raised by the noble Hieronymus and haunted by recurring nightmares. When his true Scythian heritage comes to light, his comfortable life unravels and he is cast into slavery, beginning a long journey across the fractured Greek world of the fourth century BC. Surviving shipwreck, mercenary raids, and the schemes of fading city-states, Eumenes slowly works his way toward the rising court of Macedon, where he will one day serve Alexander the Great.
