A Death Note spin-off set apart from the manga's continuity, this novel follows the detective L through the final twenty-three days left to him after he wrote his own name in the notebook. With the clock running, he takes on Blue Ship, a bioterrorist outfit whose population-reduction plan would release an engineered virus on most of humanity. L spends what time he has left dismantling the scheme, and the story keeps its attention on the man behind the detective rather than on another duel of wits with Kira.
