星守る犬

Happie, an Akita puppy found abandoned in a cardboard box, is taken home by a working-class Japanese family, and the years that follow are narrated by the dog himself. The father grows inseparable from Happie even as his wife and daughter drift away from him. When a divorce leaves him jobless, he loads a few cardboard boxes and the dog into his car and drives south toward the sea, with no plan beyond the road in front of them.
